The Pine Barrens of NJ

One of the most unique ecosystems in the US. The New Jersey Pine Barrens is a vast, ecologically rich region spanning over one million acres in southern New Jersey. It is known for its unique sandy soil, extensive pine-oak forests, and diverse wetlands. A critical natural resource is the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer, which holds over 17 trillion gallons of some of the purest water in the eastern U.S. The area also supports rare plant and animal species, including orchids, carnivorous plants, and the Pine Barrens tree frog. Its forests help regulate climate and protect water quality.
